I first interviewed Holly Bell in June 2023 and you can read that interview here:

She also generously shared a series of extracts from her brilliant book, I Know I Don’t Know You, But… about the financial side of divorce. This is the final post of four but the other three are linked at the top.

"I never thought he would be like this, he was always a very generous man."

I was delighted to catch up with her.

Are there any money habits you’ve let go of since the first interview? If yes, what and why?

Gosh I have become a bit of an ostrich. Which is not very me. In fact I feel as though my attitude to money is going backwards. I mean, I worked a full time job when I was at uni and left with an ISA. And now here I am at 45 and I am regularly kept awake at night worrying about money. Why? Well, the cost of living is bonkers as we all know. Each week the trolley of food feels smaller for more money.

Then there’s the cost of chocolate having gone up to the point that my brownie business is barely profitable now. And my boys are getting older and uni is now staring me in the face. I won’t lie; I am a bit scared of the future financially. I am a carer too so my ability to work in a regular job is greatly reduced.

In short, my money habit of being aware and in control has gone. It feels like the Wild West here.
